Speeding ticket in Philadelphia PA

Speeding tickets are a pretty common thing in Philadelphia, as a matter of fact they are common nearly everywhere. At one point or another, for one reason or another, every driver has sped. Intentionally to get where they’re going faster, or inadvertently while coasting down a hill or simply not paying necessary attention to the speedometer. It happens.

It happens even more often in densely populated and highly traveled areas such as Philadelphia.

Speeding tickets in Philadelphia have been a hot issue in the Philadelphia area lately, since several traffic court judges have been indicted on ticket-fixing matter in court. Traffic court judges are coming under scruitiny for accepting bribes, such as a $2,000 Tiffany bracelet in exchange for making some nasty tickets disappear. While former traffic court judges may be in some hot water, that doesn’t mean Philadelphia takes speeding ticket cases any less seriously

Unfortunately, in Philadelphia a simple speeding ticket can have far reaching consequences. In the State of Pennsylvania a speeding ticket automatically comes with two immediate consequences: 1) You’re down and out a chunk of change. Fines are commensurate with the violation and fees and surcharges are added, and they add up fast. 2) One or more points are added to your driving record. Rack up enough points in a specified time frame and you could be staring down the barrel at public transportation. 6 or more points earns you a suspension of your driving privileges in Philadelphia.

In addition to the two automatic consequences, you could see rate spikes in your car insurance premiums.

You might be in luck though, if you’re travelling on Interstates 95, 76 and 676 inside the city limits. Philadelphia police officers are now required to contact the Pennsylvania State Police before initiating a traffic stop on those interstates.

Although, if your luck has run out and you have been saddled with a speeding ticket in Philadelphia you have several options.

The first option is to plead guilty, pay the ticket and incur the points on your record. The second option is to plead not guilty and request a hearing on the matter.

It’s difficult to represent yourself in a speeding ticket hearing because of the difficulty involved in proving you were not speeding. This is a great time to get a traffic court attorney involved by visiting us. Your attorney will have access to more records and documents that will enable them to make an arguable claim on your defense, ultimately sparing your pocketbook and your driver’s license.
